Black History Month 2024
Mental Health Support for Black Health and Care Workers
This year’s theme, 'Reclaiming Narratives,' emphasises the importance of sharing stories of Black history and culture while addressing historical inaccuracies surrounding Black heritage. It’s about challenging the long-standing narratives that have overlooked the contributions and achievements of Black people.
Black History Month (BHM) is celebrated annually in the UK throughout October. It is a time to honour Black history, heritage, and culture, and to recognize the contributions of ethnically diverse communities to our society, including within the health and care sectors.
The Journey of a Black Medic
Black History Month (BHM) also serves as an opportunity to inspire change by acknowledging and learning from Black history to build a better future. This year, under the theme Reclaiming Narratives, the organisers have called on allies to unite in the pursuit of a more equitable world for all.
This Black History Month, NHS Practitioner Health will be sharing a variety of resources to support Black health and care workers in accessing mental health support. We are also excited to announce the upcoming podcast, ‘The Journey of a Black Medic’ featuring an expert panel that includes NHS Practitioner Health Psychiatrists Dr Eleanor Cole and Dr Leon Francis, alongside Founder and CEO of Melanin Medics Dr Olamide Oguntimehin.
