Celebrating 15 year of NHS Practitioner Health
It’s hard to believe that it has been fifteen years since we began the Practitioner Health journey.
I still remember receiving the email with our official NHS logo on 24th September 2008 and our organisational code that enabled us to exist. Over the weeks that followed the first few patients began trickling in, some of them very unwell indeed, and by the time PH was formally launched by the Chief Medical Officer on 17 November 2008 we already had a caseload of around 50.
At that time there were just three of us in the team and we had pilot funding for a year to test the concept in London. I don’t think we could have imagined what the service would grow to be, covering England, Scotland, Isle of Man, Guernsey, and Jersey. We’ve had the honour to help and treat more than 27,000 patients and our team has expanded and developed to include a wealth of highly experienced, compassionate individuals who have played their part in the success of the service over the last 15 years.
As we mark this important anniversary our service is seeing record numbers of patients coming through. Their needs are complex and the pressures on the NHS and care systems have increased like never before, but I am proud to say that we are still here, offering the same care and kindness to every person who contacts us. The journey thus far has been remarkable, and the future looks even more promising.
